Q:
My SCL reading won’t go above 1.0.
First of all, make sure that the finger sensors are securely plugged in to the Lightstone. It is possible for the fingers sensors to seem as if they have been plugged in, and to even get a heart rate variability reading without the sensors being fully connected.
The two most important factors in obtaining a good signal from the sensors are the temperature of your hands and the position of the sensors on your fingers.
The first thing to do is to make sure that the sensors are correctly positioned. The sensors should be put on your fingers with the flaps going over the backs of your fingers, and the pads of your fingers should be making contact with the actual sensors. There is a good illustration of this on page 11 in the user's manual for The Passage.
The SCL sensors are measuring sweat gland activity. Because of this, it is essential that your hand be warm in order to get good readings. If you are having difficulty obtaining a good signal the best thing that you can do is wrap your hand in a soft warm cloth; something like a towel or scarf. This will keep your hand warm and promote sweat gland activity.
When you have been sitting and playing the game for a while your circulation will slow down, and your hands can begin to cool, so if your signals decline over the time that you are playing it can be helpful to get up and move around a little bit in order to promote circulation and warm up your hands.

Q:
My sound is crackly or distorted.
If you are using QuickTime version 6.5 than this is most likely being caused by an incompatibility with DirectSound. If you are using QuickTime 7 than it will probably require a settings change.
QuickTime 6.5:
1. Open the control panel by clicking on the Start Menu and then Control Panel in Windows XP or open My Computer and then the control panel for Windows 98, 2000, and ME.
Open Add/Remove Programs.
2. Open the QuickTime shortcut.
3. In the dropdown menu choose Sound Out.
4. In the second dropdown menu choose WaveOut. If there are other options and it is still crackly with WaveOut, you will need to experiment to see which setting works best.
QuickTime 7:
1. Open the control panel by clicking on the Start Menu and then Control Panel in Windows XP or open My Computer and then the control panel for Windows 98, 2000, and ME.
2. Open the QuickTime shortcut.
3. Select the Audio tab.
4. Use the dropdown menu to change Size to 24 bit.

Q:
What happens if you take off the finger sensors or give to somebody else during game play?
The biofeedback hardware is adaptive to each user. If you remove the finger sensors or give them to somebody else the game will be paused until they are placed on the fingers again. The game will then require 25 seconds to calibrate the sensors.

Q:
My heart sensor isn’t detecting my heartbeat.
After ensuring that the sensors are properly connected to the Lightstone; the two most important factors in obtaining a good signal from the sensors are the temperature of your hands and the position of the sensors on your fingers.
To make sure that the sensors are properly connected to the Lightstone first disconnect them and make sure that there are six metal pins. Then reconnect them and make sure that there is a good firm connection.
The heart rate variability sensor is measuring the volume of blood in your finger with an optical sensor. Because of this, it is essential that your hand be warm or you will not be able to get good readings. If you are having difficulty obtaining a good signal the best thing that you can do is wrap your hand in a soft warm cloth, something like a towel or scarf. This will keep your hand warm, and will also block any light that could be interfering with the sensor's functionality.
When you have been sitting and playing the game for a while your circulation will slow down, and your hands can begin to cool, so if your signals decline over the time that you are playing it can be helpful to get up and move around a little bit in order to promote circulation and warm up your hands.
It is important that you keep your hand still. The sensors are extremely sensitive to motion, and any movement in your hand will cause it to lose the signal. Therefore, try to keep your hands as motionless as possible in order to keep a good heart rate variability signal.

Q:
I’m stuck in Wisdom Quest; there are no navigation stars and the Escape key does not work.
There is a known issue in Wisdom Quest, where if you use the right combination of navigation movements, usually involving the back button, you can get caught in a loop in the game. When this happens, you cannot use the escape key, and there is no apparent way to navigate out of the screen that you are in. It sounds like this is what has happened to you. You can use the map to get out of this. Open the map using the m key, and then click on another part of the game that you have already been to. This will warp you to that part of the game and you will be out of the loop. You can then use the map to return to where you were originally.

Q:
The Escape key isn’t working in Wisdom Quest.
You must be in VR mode for the escape button to work. So if you are in a biofeedback event or a movie the escape key will not work.
Sometimes it will take a few seconds to exit the game and return to the main menu after the escape key has been pressed. However, if you push esc before you return to the main menu, the game will catch both presses of the escape key and you will go to the main menu and then return to the game without seeing the main menu at all so it will seem as if the escape key is not working.
If you are in VR mode and it seems as if the escape key is not working, click once anywhere in the VR window where there is nothing to interact with, and then press the escape key once.
