Welcome to a new year with The Wild Divine Project! We hope 2006 is off to a great start, and that all of your new year’s goals and dreams are on their way to coming true. As you focus your attention on taking better care of yourself in 2006, we are here to help you on your journey to enhanced mind-body connectedness, a healthier life, less stress (who doesn’t wish for that?), and a better world for all of us.

This issue features a number of unique tips to help you take better care of yourself. First, we are thrilled to have a contribution from Dr. James Rouse; in his article below, Dr. Rouse talks about courageous loving and living, specifically how opening yourself up to your lighter side can lead to better heart health. There is another kind of meditation called "mindfulness meditation" during which you do not repeat anything. Instead, you just observe whatever comes up in each moment, without judgment. You just watch your thoughts bubble up without getting caught up in the emotion or the content of the thoughts, and then you watch the next one. You see them as events in the field of awareness. You just focus on watching your thoughts go by, without judgment, rather than repeating a sound. Both meditation by repeating a sound and mindfulness meditation both help to bring our awareness into the present moment.

The Lady of Compassion

Try this: The elevator is an easy and familiar metaphor to return to whenever you need to ground your energy. When you find yourself too “in your head” – your thoughts racing, too many things going on at once – use the elevator meditation to bring your energy and attention out of your head and into your body. Imagine you are literally stepping into the elevator, the door closing on your thoughts and worries. Begin to breathe deeply and evenly. Continue to breathe like this and allow yourself to drop into your body and experience the present moment. When the doors open, you will feel refreshed, balanced, and grounded.
