Last month we heard from many of you, and your number one request was more relaxation tips. Luckily, one of our leading wellness guides, Dr. Andrew Weil was on hand to provide some expert breathing tips...Breathe it in!
Breathing: An Introduction
by Dr. Andrew Weil
"The single most effective relaxation technique I know is conscious regulation of breath." - Dr. Weil
In many languages - the words for spirit and breath are one and the same (Sanskrit prana, Hebrew ruach, Greek pneuma, Latin spiritus). Native Americans, among others, believe that life enters the body with the first breath, not at the moment of birth or of conception. In this view the fetus and newborn have a kind of vegetative life, uninvested with spirit until the breath cycle begins.
Breathing is the bridge between mind and body, the connection between consciousness and unconsciousness, the movement of spirit in matter. Breath is the key to health and wellness, a function we can learn to regulate and develop in order to improve our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
Breathing is special in several respects: it is the only function you can perform consciously as well as unconsciously, and it can be a completely voluntary act or a completely involuntary act, as it is controlled by two sets of nerves, one belonging to the voluntary nervous system, the other to the involuntary (autonomic) system. Breath is the bridge between these two systems.
Most people do not know how to breathe so as to take full advantage of the nourishing, health-giving properties of the act of breathing. Knowing how to perform simple breathing techniques can help lower your blood pressure, calm a racing heart, or help your digestive system without taking drugs. Breathing has direct connections to emotional states and moods - observe someone who is angry, afraid or otherwise upset, and you will see a person breathing rapidly, shallowly, noisily and irregularly. You cannot be upset if your breathing is slow, deep, quiet and regular. You cannot always center yourself emotionally by an act of will, but you can use your voluntary nerves to make your breathing slow, deep, quiet and regular, and the rest will follow. Keep an eye out for Michael Moore's eagerly awaited documentary, 'Sicko' - release date is June 29.
If you have any interest in our current health care system, this is a film not to be missed. Whether you are a fan of Michael Moore or not, Sicko is sure to offer an insightful look into the crazy and cruel U.S. health care system.
For instance, did you know that more than half of our society cannot afford health care? The consequences are huge.
We hope that you will find the time to see this movie and explore these ideas. |

WILD DIVINE'S BIOFEEDBACK PROGRAM OFFERS HUGE RELIEF TO PATIENTS
- Jen Matlack
Four years ago while researching biofeedback programs online, Sally Clements, R.N, of the Samaritan Well-Being Center at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio came across the Wild Divine website. “Initially the name caught my attention,” says Clements, who spent time viewing the product demonstration before logging off from her computer for the evening. Impressed with what she had seen, Clements thought that Wild Divine’s biofeedback program might provide a benefit to patients at the hospital. “I thought it could serve as a tool for people who are in pain and need a distraction,” she says.

This Summer it is all about laughter and smiling.
When was the last time you laughed? I mean, real laughter from deep within the belly? The kind of laughter that is contagious. You just can't stop!
Take notice this week and make it a point to smile. Smile at yourself. Smile at strangers. Smile at those you care about. Try to give a little smile even to those who annoy you!
Giggle, smile and embrace deep laughter! Notice how it changes everything and makes you feel better - even if for no reason.
Laughter can cure! |

| Something to Think About |
|
‘It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.’-Charles Darwin I like this quote because we can never eliminate stress in our world. All we need is to learn the tools that help us deal with stress and its symptoms. We can then learn to embrace and live with chaos while not allowing it to affect our mind and body.

Our second runner up in our Wild Divine FREE Giveaway is Diana from Denver, Colorado! Congratulations Diana!
Diana and a friend are the winners of a deep soulful weekend with Deepak Chopra and David Simon this July at the new Chopra Center in Westminster, CO.
Diana found our products through her biofeedback practitioner who had suggested the use of this tool and visual experience in order to help her continue with the therapeutic features of Biofeedback. Diana had been in several auto accidents and had many challenges healing and could not take drugs for pain, so she turned to biofeedback for pain management. With her use of this tool and the meditation training she has received for the past 17 years, she has minimized her pain and increased her ability to focus through spirit/body/mind awareness.
The Wild Divine team wishes Diana an amazing weekend, and we look forward to following up with Diana after her weekend away! |

This month we were thrilled to see that Dr. Dean Ornish and Dr. Andrew Weil were featured in an event called the 'Urban Zen's First Initiative - The Well Being Forum,' hosted by Donna Karan. This event was to help integrate and push the boundries of how we think about integrative medicine and patient care.
Whether it is an affluent venture capitalist, a famous singer, athlete, designer or actor, I’m still all for the trickle-down effect that happens when the famous get behind certain causes. More doctors are inspired by the idea of integrative medicine’s aim to treat the whole human being — physically, mentally and spiritually.
Then why not support it!
