Things We Love

Gunther von Hagens’
BODY WORLDS 2

Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS exhibits are the first public anatomical exhibitions of real human plastinates. They have been on display worldside for ten years and so far, almost 18 million visitors have viewed the exhibit at venues in 32 cities across Asia, Europe, the United States and Canada.

Plastination makes it possible to preserve individual tissues and organs that have been removed from the body of the deceased as well as the entire body itself. Like most inventions, plastination is simple in theory: in order to make a specimen permanent, decomposition must be halted.

BODY WORLDS is a soulful collaboration – a joint quest towards enlightenment between donor, anatomist, and visitor. Donors who so generously willed their bodies for Plastination’s Body Donation Program, for the cause of science and the advance of knowledge, take center state in this unprecedented homage to humanity.

Now in Denver through July 23, 2006 and in Houston through September 4, 2006, this exhibit has made knowledge previously available to the medical profession, available to the general public.

For more information, including planned cities and dates, visit the BODY WORLDS website.

Main Story

Movement Meditation:
Centering Breath

By Shiva Rea

Shiva Rea

Meditation invokes a shift in consciousness, whether it be in stillness or action. Movement meditation can be a very accessible way to restore the equilibrium of the mind. When you are in the midst of your day and your mind is restless or disturbed, doing this simple movement meditation can create an immediate shift in consciousness, enabling you to bring greater awareness and peace into the world around you.

The following meditation is based upon the opening movements of Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation. The linking of the breath with the archetypal arm movements – expanding the arms upward on the inhalation and then contracting them down the center line of your spine on the exhalation – taps into the basic rhythm of life that defines our movement-to-movement reality.

Wild Divine Success

Thank you for your outpouring of stories! Below are just some of our winning success stories!

“I started using Journey to Wild Divine: The Passage a few months ago as a way to help manage my stress.  My doctor had recently diagnosed me  with adrenal fatigue and suggested using biofeedback as a way to help me  learn to manage stress more effectively.  I had been taking medication for 10 years for hypertension, and was showing early signs of Type II diabetes as well.

Dakshina CD
Deva Premal Music CD: Dakshina

Mantras are rapidly becoming the music of choice for people seeking solace in sound, and Deva Premal, dubbed by one reviewer as the 'Enya of Mantra', is the voice they're turning to. With half a million CDs sold worldwide and a buzz of interest from ardent fans ranging from yogis, therapists and alternative health practitioners to Cher and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Deva Premal and her partner Miten have achieved a huge degree of recognition in the blossoming niche world of Yoga Music. Deva Premal's music is driven by a simple yet elegant vision: "everybody with a voice can sing, and everyone with a breath in their body can experience their divinity...we share with others the healing power of music, and the bliss that it brings." The phenomenon of her groundswell of listeners is living proof that mantras are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. Featuring Deva Premal's transcendent voice layered in a chorus of lush harmonies, Dakshina is a celebration of the divine, perfect for Yoga and relaxation.

Dialogues on Science and Mystery

When John Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D, the founder and director of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center was asked to explain the relationship between meditation, intimacy, and healing, he replied:

"It has to do with a sense of actually finding one's place in the world and knowing it consciously, so you can navigate through the complexities of life with a feeling of groundedness and integrity -- even in the face of constant change and potential threats to your well-being. I think there must be a physiology of that. I don't think we've even begun to tease out what the mediating factors are, but they are probably every bit as powerful as the fight-or-flight reaction."

Letter from Deepak Chopra
Anna Coy Deepak Chopra, MD

Dear Friends,

As we embrace relationships, along with the energy we share with our family, friends, coworkers, and of course, ourselves, we see how critically significant these interpersonal interactions are to our own emotional development. These evolving relationships are the most obvious barometers of our emotional well being. At their heart, all relationships are spiritual experiences. They nurture us, teach us, and connect us to the souls of others and—most significantly—to the depth of our very own souls.

Training Tip:
The Passage

Heart Breath at Glacier Horn
Breathe

Try this: During a particularly busy or hectic time of your day, whether it’s on the way to work, or in the middle of getting several things done, picking up the kids, or grocery shopping – times when your breathing is the last thing on your mind – return to the heart breath. See if you can recall the rhythm (using whatever method or metaphor works for you), and continue for about half a minute. Was this difficult for you to do? Why? Try this a couple times over the next few days and note any changes in your mental, emotional, and physical state each time.

Deepak Chopra Anna Coy
Knowing the Flow of Life

By Anna Coy

Each day is a new start for life to unfold. In your mind and heart you hold the keys to how your day will proceed. Every moment allows for choice and observation of your inner state. When you feel disconnected from the flow of life, focus on your breath and you will remember it is the flow of life that carries you.
