Main Story

Deepak Chopra on His Role in Wisdom Quest

Dr. Deepak Chopra

So what have you been up to lately?

I’ve been writing. I’m writing three books at this time: one on leadership, one on the survival of consciousness after death, and one on the Cosmic Christ. I’m also the president of the Alliance for New Humanity, which is creating peace cells all over the world, and I’ve been giving workshops.

How did you become involved with the Wild Divine Project?

I was always interested in biofeedback. The Wild Divine Project is doing amazing things; they’re providing a really accessible way to regulate your physiology and biology. It’s more than biofeedback, it’s bioregulation.

What makes The Wild Divine Project so relevant to your community?

I've taught yoga for years and years, and I think it accelerates the whole
experience of connecting with a different level of consciousness. When
people can learn to influence what's happening in their body in a few hours, why waste a whole week?

Mind-Body Matters

An Overview on Mind-Body Medicine from the NCCAM

NCCAM logo

Welcome to a new component of the Wild Divine Newsletter. Each month, we’ll point you towards news, information and resources to educate you about the importance of mind-body connectedness and the role it plays in a happy mind and and a healthy body. If you’ve experienced The Passage or Wisdom Quest, you already know that learning to manage your physiology is a major step toward reducing your stress and improving your quality of life. Now, we'd also like to share with you the increasing body of work that underscores this principle and showcases these new paths in medicine and treatment. Follow the link below for an extensive report on mind-body medicine from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, one of eight sections within the National Institute of Health.

Introduction
Mind-body medicine focuses on the interactions among the brain, mind, body, and behavior, and the powerful ways in which emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors can directly affect health. It regards as fundamental an approach that respects and enhances each person's capacity for self-knowledge and self-care, and it emphasizes techniques that are grounded in this approach.

Definition of Scope of Field
Mind-body medicine typically focuses on intervention strategies that are thought to promote health, such as relaxation, hypnosis, visual imagery, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, tai chi, qi gong, cognitive-behavioral therapies, group support, autogenic training, and spirituality. The field views illness as an opportunity for personal growth and transformation, and health care providers as catalysts and guides in this process.

Meditation Tip
Dean Ornish, MD DeanOrnish, MD

Meditation is simple in concept but difficult to master. Fortunately, you don’t have to master meditation to benefit from it. You just have to practice. No one ever really masters it completely, but even a few steps down that road can make a meaningful difference. It is the process of meditation that makes it so beneficial, not how well you perform.

Everyone has a hard time focusing, especially at first. Everybody! You are in good company. There is a reason why some people spend time in solitude trying to master meditation--because learning to control and train your own thoughts is difficult.

Breathing Tip
Anna Coy Anna Coy

Breath is the Gift of Life. The practice of breathing is the gateway to awareness and freedom! Following your breath is the number one way to reconnect to your life force and recharge and re-enliven your whole being.

On commercial airplanes, the emergency instructions include "In the event of an emergency your oxygen mask will drop; and "put your mask on first before you try to put on your child's mask." Did you ever wonder why?

Training Tip:
The Passage
Passage Tip Image

Try this: At the beginning of your day, take a few moments to observe your energy and appreciate stillness. This can be five minutes at your desk, outside, or getting coffee. Leaning to maintain your energy can help reduce the extreme ups and downs which wear us out, and take a real toll on us by day’s end. Imagine your energy is that rock – steady but light, moving on its given course. Think about letting go, rather than wrestling your worries to the ground. Try the same thing at the end of your day. How close it is to how you were this morning? Or do you feel totally undone by afternoon? By becoming aware of where your energy goes and how it moves, you can put this exercise into practice, and achieve consistency.

Letter from Deepak Chopra
Deepak Chopra Deepak Chopra, MD

The human mind, inherently impatient, activates emotional reactions when our ideas about how things should be collide with how things are. We sometimes torment ourselves over things we've said and done that we wished were different. Each of us carries in our heads a script of our lives with the expectations of what should occur next, how someone should react, what someone else should say, and how the next moment should unfold.
