October 2004: Press Release
The Wild Divine Project and Researcher Jean Houston Form Alliance
The Wild Divine Project, a Boulder, Colorado-based company that produces multimedia experiences to facilitate healing, transformation, and sustainability, has formed an alliance with world-renowned human capacities researcher, Jean Houston.
They are collaborating on The Journey to Wild Divine, a groundbreaking “Inner-active” computer journey, the company announced. The Journey, which begins shipping in December, integrates a spiritual quest with an innovative biofeedback interface and high-end entertainment production.
Houston, who is co-director of the Foundation for Mind Research and the author of many books, is helping weave myth and the classic hero and heroine’s journey into the game. She is also consulting and developing key text and exercises for the game and its companion guide, doing voiceovers, and connecting the company with other potential allies and resources.
“The game’s creator, Corwin Bell, and I knew of Jean Houston’s background as a pioneer in human potential and of her extensive knowledge of mythology and storytelling,” says Kurt R. Smith, The Wild Divine Project’s founder. “Then, we read her writings on the role of computers and technology in the evolution of the human soul and consciousness in her book, Jump Time, and thought she’d make a perfect ally. As soon as she saw the game, she was enthusiastic and recognized what we were trying to accomplish.”
“I’ve always been a gamer and have loved computer games since the 1970’s,” says Houston. “So, here I was, a gamer, whose field was states of consciousness and who knew a great deal about biofeedback. And I loved The Journey to Wild Divine. It incorporates state of the art graphics, a philosophical growth concept and biofeedback and allows the player to self-orchestrate the journey using different states of breathing, consciousness, relaxation and awareness. Essentially, you have exciting things to do and places to go, and you aren’t the same person when you’re finished. This is much of what my own work entails. The partnership was a natural fit. You also rarely find people of such a remarkable level, tenor, moral power, dedication and just sheer goodness getting together to work on a singular project.”
The ally program is a key component of the grassroots marketing strategy of The Wild Divine Project. Its purpose is to collaborate in various ways with leaders in the fields of consciousness and compassionate action. These associations will be synergistic, with the company contributing to the allies’ efforts as well.
